Mihailo Blam (1947-2014), prominent Serbian jazz musician, double bassist, composer and author has been collecting artefacts related to Serbian jazz for more than five decades. Miša passed on his father Rafael’s collection as well as a number of artefacts (posters, photos, documents, music sheets…) to his Markus, his son, to form a Jazz Museum and make these items available to the public. The oldest artefacts date back to 1927 when the first jazz orchestra in Serbia Studentski Micky Jazz, led by Rafael Blam was formed. The photos show the expansion of jazz from 1927 to 1941 and the WW2 period. The Festival will host only a small fraction of the collection in the possession of Markus Blam with the aim to inspire a permanent exhibition in proper space, and according to Miša’s wish, to educate young generations and inform people about the history of music and jazz in Serbia.
